The Three Horeseshoes Walk in Warminster has said goodbye to The Potato Hut kiosk, which sold takeaway food, drinks and sandwiches, following an early termination of the lease by Stockland, which owns the shopping mall.

The kiosk has been in existence for some 30 years, and prior to being a takeaway sold sweets, cigarettes and newspapers.

The change in lease, instigated by the owners of the mall, comes in anticipation of a planning decision which has been submitted by Costa Coffee in relation to the former Stead and SImpson shoe shop. The planning application includes seating for 60 inside, plus an exterior seating/smoking area for 12 customers - which, one imagines, would have conflicted with The Potato Hut's external positioning in the Three Horseshoes Walk.

Warminster Town Council discussed the planning application this week and the final decision will be made by Wiltshire Council.

The end of another independent business in Warminster...

Just the kind of report I hate to read. Big business, bullying its way into a small town, and trampling on an established independent business. Money talks, and the wealthy companies will always support each other, at the expense of the small players. A disgusting decision, but no doubt the trend will continue...However, Costa Coffee have lost two customers in this house, because wherever they are, we will not be purchasing from them again....I will bring a flask when all the local cafes, and restaurants have been ground by the powerful heels of the mighty.
