A Level students at Warminster School had cause to celebrate last week after achieving a record-breaking set of results. This is particularly impressive as the new A Level examinations, now in their second year, are more demanding than their predecessors.

Warminster School A Level Results Day - August 2011
Of particular note was the increase in the percentage of A* - B grades, which reached 55% of all examinations sat. This is highest percentage of top grades ever achieved in the School's history. Of these, 7% of all results were at the exacting A* grade, which is awarded to candidates who achieve over 90% in their final examinations. In addition more than 25% of entries were at either A* or A grade. The pass rate overall was an impressive 99%.
Individuals who excelled included Jemima Tabeart with two A*s and two A grades, Tom Coupe with an A* and two A grades and Sofia Tindall-Guignard with A*, A and B grades. The school was also delighted with the results of their Head Boy and Head Girl. Both Jasper Eeles (from Warminster) and Ellie Taylor-Roberts (from Sutton Veny) achieved an A*, an A and a B grade.
Alongside their IB colleagues, Warminster A Level students have, as ever, obtained places at a wide range of prestigious universities. Van Vu (A*, A*, A, B) secured a place at Warwick to read Economics, whilst both Jasper Eeles (A*, A, B) and James Bremner of Bishopstrow (A, A, B) will study at Cardiff University. Jasper will read Environmental Geoscience and James will study Archaeology with Ancient History.
Headmaster, Martin Priestley, was delighted with the results. He comments:
"I am very proud of our A Level pupils and what they have achieved in their results. To have achieved a record proportion of top grades is particularly pleasing. These students have matched the excellence achieved earlier in the summer by their peers studying the IB Diploma programme. Both sets of results demonstrate that the school continues to succeed academically and to enable its students to achieve outstanding results at the top end.
I also congratulate my colleagues on the hard work that went into preparing these candidates. Both pupils and staff have succeeded in rising to the challenges presented by increasingly discriminating examinations and an unprecedentedly high demand for places at universities in the UK. I send the A Level leavers of 2011 my congratulations on their achievements and also my very best wishes as they move on to an exciting new chapter in their lives."
