Gusts of up to 50mph and rain are expected today as strong winds continue to batter the South and South-West England.

Stourhead has already seen a couple of large trees come down near the Estate Office over the last 48 hours, so visitors to the park and grounds are advised to check in advance on 01747 841152 whether it is open.

A large tree has been damaged at Heavens Gate entrance at Longleat, quite close to the road (see photo) and further trees have come down around the Longleat and Horningsham area.

The A303 was closed this morning from 7.10am at the junction with the A350 at Fonthill Bishop due to fallen power cables. Diversions are in place.

The B3095 near Kingston Deverill was also closed this morning due to a fallen tree, after strong winds overnight.

On Sambourne Road, a tree on the edge of the Cricket Ground came down overnight damaging a gate of a residential property.

If you have any other news on damage from the storms do let us know or add your photos!

I saw today that the tree at Heaven's Gate must have been so badly damaged that it has been entirely cut down, and is now languishing on a log pile somewhere on the Estate - very sad.
