Thornbury and Weston-super-Mare have it all to do if they are to avoid relegation from Premier One of the Globe Sports West of England Premier League.

With only one more round of matches to go, Thornbury must now defeat Downend at home on Saturday and hope other results go their way after suffering a sixth successive reverse, this time by three-wickets at second-placed Frocester.

And Weston are in a similar position after a 38-run home setback against Taunton Deane which leaves the Seasiders needing a big result on Saturday away to leaders Bath and help elsewhere.

Weston finished 38 runs shy of Taunton Deane, who totalled 196 for seven off a rain-reduced 46 overs. Thornbury battled hard but in vain at Frocester after losing a crucial toss and being bowled out for 114 in the 41st over.

Wayne Kylander (30) and skipper Richard Trotman (28) top scored as former Gloucestershire all-rounder Mark Hardinges (five for 36) and James Shackleton (three for 26) struck.

In reply, Wayne Kylander grabbed the key wicket of Nick Trainor for 13 en route to returning three for 29 as Juvaunie Gayle (two for 24), Greg Mallitte (two for 14) and Trotman (none for 21, all from ten) kept the pressure on.

A crucial unbroken partnership of 40 between Shackleton (26) and Oliver Jones (10) then saw Frocester to victory.

Corsham continued their Houdini-like escape from trouble with a third win in four outings, this time overhauling Bristol by 53 runs at Station Road though both sides are still not safe from the drop. An unbroken century partnership between Tom Bowler (65) and Ashur Morrison (47) helped the home side total 227 for five after Gloucestershire spinner Vikram Banerjee (three for 22 from ten) had made early inroads.

Openers Charlie Walker (29) and Will Tavare (25) gave Bristol an encouraging start but both men fell victim to Tom Hankins (four for 17 from ten) with Bowler (two for 31), Morrison (one for 23 from nine) and Sam Mount (one for 18 off six) keeping the pressure on.

Leaders Bath were seven-wicket victors in a rain-affected 30-overs clash at Downend who reached 162-9, Matt Jackson hitting 29 and Alex Muse capturing 3-41.

Bath eased home in the 23rd over thanks to opener James Campbell's 69 off 53 balls (11 fours, 2 sixes).

Third-placed Bridgwater went down by eight wickets in Premier One to Taunton St Andrews at the Wyvern Club.

Bridgwater were bowled out by 120 in 34.2 overs. They slumped to 10 for five from nine overs before recovering. Sam Venn took three for 16 from six overs while Keith Parsons managed the same figures from eight overs.

Taunton St Andrews passed the total in just over 24 overs. Jake Lintott was 46 not out and Keith Parsons 34 not out.

In Premier Two, Bristol West Indians suffered a fifth successive defeat to remain in danger of returning to the Bristol & Somerset division after only one season.

BWI were bowled out for 133 at high-flying Ilminster who then needed 48 overs to reach their target.

The result means that BWI must now bag maximum points in their final game of the campaign, at home to bottom side Taunton, and hope that eighth-placed Chippenham slip up at home to Warminster.

Keynsham went down by 46 runs at home to Chippenham who totalled 229 for seven off a rain-reduced 46 overs.

Ed Young top-scored on 65 as Dave Burston (three for 13 from seven), Tom Bryan (two for 27) and Rich Wilton (none 26 from ten) led the Keynsham attack.

The home side then lost wickets at regular intervals, Paul Robbins top-scoring with 58 before being caught off Arran Merryweather who finished with three for 27.

Joe Breet had a fine all-round game for Westbury & District in their four-wicket win over Gloucester City Winget. He took three for 24 from ten overs as Gloucester made 169 for eight from 50 overs. Breet then starred in Westbury's middle order with 64 not out in their 170 for six from 37.3 overs.

The battle for the title in Division One of the West Somerset Cricket League is wide open again.

Brompton Ralph are back on top after beating bottom side Stogumber by 115 runs over the weekend.

Crowcombe lost ground after their match against Roadwater was rained off, which means they now trail Brompton by five points although they have a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Staplegrove virtually clinched the championship in Division One of the Shrubbery Hotel Somerset League after beating Wellington by six wickets.

Former leaders North Petherton came unstuck against Purnells.
