Thousands of people gathered on the streets of Warminster this evening to witness the Warminster Carnival 2011, and to raise money for charity.

Unfortunately, despite signs earlier today that the evening would remain dry, it rained from the start of the procession...right to the very end. However, it has to be said that Warminster residents are used to rain-soaked Carnivals, and are fairly stoic about the weather? So, up went the hoods and umbrellas and everyone just got on with enjoying the evening!

One has to admire the determination of dancers and majorettes smiling through their acts as the drizzle became heavier, and the effort that goes into the make-up, the choreography and the floats is undeniable.

Highlights of this Warminster Carnival were:

- the brightly coloured "Candy Parade" sweet-themed float

- the Wookey Hole witch

- the Joker from Batman riding in an open-topped sportscar

- scores of very talented dancers and majorettes

- a small child dressed as a Helter Skelter

- the contrast of Mayor Pip Ridout in a warm towncar and Councillor Andrew Davis dancing in the rain wearing a paper hat!

The event appeared to have been organised very well, with scores of marshalls, fund-raisers and police in attendance. Congratulations to Warminster's Carnival Committee on an excellent evening and we hope that the fund-raising efforts yield some great results.

Photo galleries to follow...and if you took any photos of the Carnival this evening please add them to the site or email them to us for inclusion on the site: warminster@thelocalpeople.co.uk
