Warminster Town Council on the move

Dewey House in Warminster will become considerably emptier over the coming weeks, as Warminster Town Council begins its move into the newly refurbished Civic Centre.

The Warminster Assembly Rooms...pre works
The renovation of the former Assembly Rooms in the Western Car Park, off Sambourne Road, is drawing to a close, at a cost of nearly £800,000. The Civic Centre will include 3 adaptable community halls, meeting rooms and offices. The refurbishment of the Civic Centre has been at the centre of a long-running controversy regarding the cost of what many Warminster citizens have called a "vanity project". However now that the end is near, let us hope that the new Civic Centre proves to repay Warminster over time and become a valuable town asset.
Dewey House offices in North Row closed on Tuesday in advance of the relocation to Sambourne Road, but the hall remains open for existing bookings until 31 December 2011.
The Civic Centre refurbishment, now running several weeks over schedule, will be officially launched at the start of 2012 when works are complete.

Devo Developments...Notice on their website, that they have one company director, who is also company secretary. Interesting company. We will just have to wait and see what happens I guess. It might 'help' the council, if they know we are watching though!

ReportI wonder if they will also rent out the rooms in Dewey House for meetings? They will have to generate revenue from it somehow to help to amortise the cost of the Civic Centre renovation. Maybe Dewey House will become the poor cousin and have slightly cheaper rates?
Or maybe sell it to Devo Developments for a song?

ReportThat is very helpful, and interesting,Thank-You, and I was aware of, and have examined the exhibits in the library, but without realizing they are those that were moved from Dewey house....I should explain that I do not reside in Warminster all the year.
I am still wondering though. Can anyone tell me what now is to become of Dewey House.

ReportThe Dewey Museum has been co-located with the Warminster Library for at least 20 years. You will find display cases and photographs in the large open room on the right as you go in. The archives and offices are upstairs (ask one of the library staff to let you in the secret door) and they are usually manned on weekday mornings. They will be happy to answer any queries.
There are monthly evening talks in the library (see the Journal for notices) although not in Dec or Jan. They are open to all. Non-members pay a small fee but why not join the Warminster History Society and Dewey Museum for a mere £10 pa and support a worthy cause.
