Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service responding to floods

Wiltshire Fire and Rescue service received around 80 emergency phonecalls after floods swept across Wiltshire during the weekend. 

Wiltshire saw almost two inches of unexpected snowfall Saturday night resulting in minor flooding in places around the county. 

The fire and rescue service assisted with pumping out water from homes and local businesses controlling the flooding. 

The most affected areas in Wiltshire are: Sutton Benger, Leigh, Box, Little Somerford, Cricklade, and Malmesbury. 

In Bradford-on-Avon the River Avon is overflowing which if the rain continues will cause disruption on the road. 

The Environment Agency has released tips on how to keep safe if flooding occurs: 

•    Six inches of water can knock a person over

•    Don't walk or drive through flood water

•    Flooding can cause manhole covers to come off and are hidden under water

•    Don't let children play in floodwater as it could be contaminated
