We were considering visiting the area for a few days - any recommendations for accommodation/food or places to visit?

Visit Warminster for its glorious surrounding countryside. The town lies on the edge of Salisbury Plain and the Imber Range Perimeter Path provides stunning views on its 30 mile circuit round a section of this spectacular open space.
For a more gentle landscape follow the crystal clear waters of the River Wylye along its scenic valley or shelter in the forests of the Longleat estate around Shearwater lake.
There is much to see and it is all for free!

The area in and around Warminster is blessed with superb B&B accomodation and excellent eating out pubs within a radius of five or six miles. This far s/w corner of Wiltshire is so near to Somerset and Dorset that it opens up such varied countryside to visit as well as Cathedral cities like Salisbury, Wells and the Georgian city of Bath. This week I enjoyed a cycle down through the Wylye Valley and kept remarking to my husband that it reminded me so much of France! Why go all the way to France, when it is just as beautiful here?!
Contact The Warminster Information Centre on 01985 214585 or call in on arriving. They have heaps of information but can only sent a section by post due to cost of postage. They are in the Central Car Park. or e-mail + visitwarminster.gov.uk
