Warminster Library's opening hours are to be reduced from 46 - 43 per week as local authorities face unprecedented pressure on

their budgets.

Wiltshire Council’s cabinet approved a vision for the future of the

library service which aims to retain all the county’s libraries

and its mobile service. This will reduce operating costs by 12 per cent but enable all 31 libraries to stay open and keep the five mobile libraries running.

It has not yet been decided which particular hours will be cut for Warminster.

The library is a paradise to many. It is a pity that the gates of paradise are to be open less often, but it is I suppose, better to cut hours, than cut libraries in the County. It seems there will be cuts everywhere, and at least this one will not put lives at risk. At least we can go there, when they are open, and take something away with us to read at home.

A library has always been such a vital point of a community, encouraging people to read and giving people access to computers, yet there is so many stories in the news about the threat to them of closures and hours being cut. It really is a sign of the times.
