Warminsterpeople
-
Chico Holton in the garden of his home in West Street.
Profile - features
a different Warminster personality each week.
This
week’s profile has been completed by Chico Holton, artist and musician. As an artist he has earned his living as a
signwriter and with his pen and ink drawings.
As
Chico says, “BBC Radio Wiltshire presenter Mark Seaman once told me that he
thought I was the luckiest man alive as I do for a living what most people do
for fun. He was certainly right. I just hope that I can stay lucky and
continue doing what I enjoy.”
Q How long have you lived in Warminster?
A All my life
Q In which area do you live?
A West Street
Q Where were you born?
A Bread Street, Warminster (home birth).
Q Did you or do your children go to a
Warminster school? If so which one?
A I went to Newtown, New Close and The Avenue. Both children went to Sambourne and Kingdown.
Q Do you have a nickname you are prepared to reveal?
A In my early days it was Rick but I’m stuck with Chico. (It
was the nickname of an uncle and I inherited it.) My real name is Richard.
Q Who shares your home? – please include any pets.
A Sue. We had three
cats who all died in contented old age but busy West Street is not ideal for
new pets.
Q What are your
hobbies/interests?
A Same as my jobs –
art and music. I also have a show every Monday evening on our superb Warminster
Community Radio.
Q Do you feature on Facebook or Twitter?
A Neither, but as a musician I have a Myspace site and a
website for my art and music
Q In which Warminster pub, café or restaurant are you most
likely to be found?
A The Wessex Club for
a game of snooker and a beer with my friends - the Weymouth Arms for a meal
with Sue.
Q Do you have a pop idol?
A Elvis and Ricky
Nelson. Chet Atkins has been my lifelong
hero. He changed my life as a guitarist
and I was lucky enough to meet him.
Q Where do you go for a favourite Warminster walk?
A I don’t really walk much but anywhere around Warminster is
good. My perfect childhood memories were
all of playing around the area with my mates.
Cley Hill, Elm Hill, Battlesbury, Bradley Road, Cannimore, Shearwater
and of course the woods. Warminster Common
was such a great place to grow up.
Q Which Warminster personality would you like to see in this
slot next week.
A Fran Pearson
