– well, the décor and furniture
to start with. The interior has been totally
refurbished to create a brighter, lighter look – and then there’s the
menu. Their chef is another new feature
at the Yew Tree. Aimée Blezard from
Trowbridge is already becoming known for her special dishes - mussels in a
white wine sauce or tiger prawns with chicken strips known as “surf and
turf”.
Aimée says she enjoys cooking dishes using fresh local
produce that can be sourced in the area and this will always be her priority. Her most recent work has been in France, as she explains "I have spent a lot
of time there in the last three years, not just cooking but growing
organically in large Monument Historic (equivalent to National Trust)
gardens. Ingredients have become an inspiring feature of
anything I cook."
From sun to snow
Aimée started work at the Yew Tree
in January when it re-opened under the management of a young couple who had met in South Africa. Thousands of miles away in Cape Town, David Turner who ran a safari
company had met Kerry Davies who was working for a tour company. They moved to England
and arrived in Warminster in snowy mid-December with Kerry’s three daughters,
Niamh 11, Tayla 8 and Shanah 5, who are now at Sambourne School. Kerry admits it was a big change for children
who were used to running around outdoors without shoes on!
Family Friendly
Kerry says “We plan to make the Yew Tree a family friendly
place. We’re going to create a play area in the garden and will be
putting tables there so that people can eat outside in good weather.”
Special Events
The couple hope the Yew Tree will be used by the whole local
community. They will be putting on special events and have arranged a St
Patrick’s Day meal for tomorrow night. Friday night will be Fish Friday - a fish
dish with chips and peas and a pint or glass of wine for £10 between 6 and 9pm
– and “kids eat free”.
This Saturday there’ll be drink promos all night for the Rugby, with kick off at 5pm. CAMRA members will be pleased to hear the Yew
Tree serves Ringwood Real Ale.
Kerry and David are looking forward to welcoming passing
visitors as well as Warminster residents who might drop in just to see what’s
new at the Yew Tree!
