Work under way to create Warminster's first combined cycle/pedestrian path

Work has begun in Woodcock Road to create Warminster's first combined cycle and footpath.
-
Roadworks in Woodcock Road to widen the pavement for combined cycle and footpath.
-
Traffic control in Imber Road while the work is under way.
The pavement is being widened for joint use of both pedestrians and cyclists and a pedestrian crossing will also be built across Station Road. The work is expected to take about three weeks. It has yet to be seen how the use of the wider pavement will be shared as there will not be a line to create two separate tracks.
Comments
Yes, it will be interesting to see how the cyclist/pedestrian priority works out.

ReportInterestingly the theory that a white line would segregate pedestrians and cyclist seems not to hold water. In talking to Martin Rose the chief engineer during our consultation at the library last November, he claims it does little to sort any conflict out. Its based on the idea that we are self organising, which you may or may not agree with. The warminster cycle group did put forward suggestions that would improve the layout of the new route, and hopefully we will get something of what we suggested. The new crossiings will be welcomed by all trying to get from Fairfield Road across Station Road to the car park and shops etc; and cyclists crossing into the Avenue will have a safer passage. Lets see how it works when finished, but I do feel its a step in the right direction to provide legal and vital routes around the town.
