On Saturday 21st November the Friends of Heytesbury, Tytherington and Knook Churches organised a very entertaining evening for about 120 people at Codford Village Hall.

Vice Admiral Sir Bob Hill has long had a great interest in the subject of the Clippers and Windjammers that plied the seas in early trading days.  His presentation, with pictures of old vessels, stormy seas and characters, was wonderfully presented by himself and three friends.  They were all dressed in uniforms or clothes of the period and the whole thing was very professionally delivered with amplification and digital projection.  It was fascinating to learn of the bravery of the seamen who navigated the Southern Oceans to Australia and the Far East - for what was a comparatively brief period before the advent of iron clad steam ships.

The proceeds of the evening were shared between the churches and the charity, Hope and Homes for Children, which is based in Steeple Langford.

A delicious supper of lasagne and apple crumble followed and the whole event was a great success.
