Never mind the General Election, Warminster has a chance to

vote this week.

Wiltshire Council has

announced the date for the Town Poll agreed following the Parish Meeting on 31st

March.  This was held to debate the future of the Assembly Rooms – see http://www.warminsterpeople.co.uk/news/Warminster-Agrees-Question-Parish-Poll/article-1960404-detail/article.html

The Poll will take place this Thursday, 22nd April.

Everybody on the electoral register for Warminster town  is eligible to vote on the question which was decided

at the meeting:  “Do you agree with the

Town Council’s idea of moving to the Assembly Rooms?”

There is only one polling station, the Assembly Rooms, which will be open between the hours of 4 and 9pm.

Think poll had to be within a certain number of days after the meeting - but  how many people will know about it or bother to vote? - and do the Town Council have to take any notice of the result I wonder?

Why has this been called at such short notice?  Is this another attempt to force through an unpopular decision?
