Parking Problems in Warminster

After only one month of use, the new parking meters outside Warminster library are all out of order. With continuing technical difficulties combined with discontent of local people at having to pay for their parking, should the council be rethinking the new scheme?

The parking scheme introduced in June allows 1 hour free parking then charge rates increase by the hour. The response to the new charges was less than welcoming by local residents who feel they should not have to pay for a service that has been free for years.
One of the two parking machines has not been operating for the last two weeks, the second is now out of order too. It would seem that even those who don't mind paying for their parking can no longer do so.
What do you think about the new parking scheme in Warminster? Have the out of order machines been a welcome break from yet more charges? Or do you feel that despite the technical difficulties The Council should continue with the pay to park scheme in Warminster Town Centre?

Perhaps when the council has finally managed to sort out the machines we should go back around the car park and put bin liners over them all with a notice: "out of order - sorry for any inconvenience".
I imagine this would clear up our parking dilemma quite quickly...

ReportI completely agree, it seems to me that the parking charges are nothing more than a half hearted attempt to raise funds.
I wonder how much has been made so far and whether it will even begin to cover the costs of the wages of ticket inspectors and the defunct ticket machines (although perhaps more ought to be spent on maintenance...). Especially as I imagine the majority of people fall under the 1 hour category so do not pay and surely those who have to stay longer will realise that there is a free car park with no one hour restrictions by Iceland!!! Surely the scheme cannot be making any money at all. I should think that the out of order machines will make very little difference!

ReportIf the Council are not being bothered to mend the machines makes me think they can't really mind if they have the revenue from parking or not?
