School Closures

The lights are on, the heating working and the teachers have all arrived but in most of our schools there appear to be no pupils! Why oh why?

Lets not delude ourselves this is not the problem for most of us!
The freeze of course stupid! Actually that is only a part of the problem. The schools are manifestly capable of teaching but they are afraid to! They have no muscle to clear snow, no salt to bust the ice on paths or playgrounds. So what? We all have ice and snow outside our houses! The fact is that virtually any accident on schools premises results in the school's insurance policy paying out five figure sums. Can we blame heads for not wanting to see their policy premium rocket?
For those of us who fit in the category of 'angry of Warminster' about these latest closures, perhaps we should reflect on the fact that some parents have brought this situation on us and that we should resist the temptation to sue at the slightest opportunity!
Another reason is that if the busses are not working (and having driven around between 7 and 8 this morning I can see no reason for this today) many children would have been missing from classes and with the National Curriculum and its associated tests and targets, teaching half or even a third of the class is stocking up difficulties for the teachers later on. The law of unintended consequences I think!
The first batch of children with toboggans have just gone past, so even though we may grumble, its good to see them enjoying themselves. Lets hope they don't break anything...!
