Wednesday 10th March was a big day for all at St John’s School.  The Rt Reverend Stephen Conway, bishop of Ramsbury, took part in a special commissioning service in St John’s Church for their new Headteacher, Mrs Lyn Taylor.  Pupils, governors, school staff and members of the Parochial Church Council of St John’s church were all present, as was the Mayor, Tony Nicklin.

Bishop Stephen’s theme for his address was “Growing into the people God wants us to be”.  Charley Cox (8) and Bradley Caldwell (9) stood beside the Bishop and tried on his mitre, in case, as the Bishop pointed out, they grew up to be bishops themselves.  Charley, with the mitre covering her eyes, told the bishop firmly, “I’m not going to be a bishop; I’m going to be a zookeeper!”

Toby Ruck (4), the youngest pupil present and Jamie Stokes (11) the oldest, compared the size of their footsteps with the Bishop as he explained that ‘growing’ meant taking one step at a time.

During the service, the Bishop blessed a cross which the PCC presented to Lyn for the school.
