A campaign against Warminster Town Council's move to the Assembly Rooms gathered more support last weekend.

The campaign is being lead by Paul Macdonald and Steve Dancey, who run the visionforwarminster website, aims to "stimulate debate about the town".  They are petitioning for a parish poll on the question of the Council's proposed move from Dewey House in North Row to the Assembly Rooms off Sambourne Road.

Paul Macdonald was handing out leaflets during the Mayor's Community Day last Saturday. "We are inviting people to sign a petition asking for a parish meeting to discuss the Council's plans," said Paul. "Residents on the electoral role can then decide if there should be a referendum and if so what question it should ask."

The Town Council has applied for a loan of £800,000 to fund the alterations needed to convert the Assembly Rooms into its new offices - see http://www.warminsterpeople.co.uk/news/Town-Council-issues-Press-Release-Assembly-Rooms/article-1798685-detail/article.html

This is a tricky topic - hard for a town to accept the need for this massive cost when they see what was their old Town Hall mouldering in their midst.
