Warminster is taking part in a pilot scheme to help Wiltshire residents lower their carbon footprint and make savings by monitoring how much energy they use.

Wiltshire Council’s scheme will make home energy monitors available for loan, free of charge, and from next Monday February 8, they  will be available from Warminster library.  Each set consists of three separate pieces; one clamps onto the cable into the meter, one piece plugs into a socket and one is the monitor which sits on a level surface.

Wilts Council says they are easy to use and show how savings can be made by replacing old light bulbs with energy efficient ones or not leaving appliances on standby. A member of the council's climate change team found around £200 a year could be saved just by switching off a heated towel rail.

The monitors are available on a three week loan for members of the library service. Residents who are not already a member can go to www.wiltshire.gov.uk/joiningthelibrary. If overdue the same fine system as for books will apply.
