Uptodate weather forecasts can be found on the bbc site. http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/359 and it looks like it's going to be a very cold night.

Wiltshire Council say their supplies of grit for the roads are holding out and not yet having to be rationed.  They will be carrying out their usual gritting runs but warn that if the temperature drops below -7degrees C then the salt that they use is not effective.

With a clear sky forecast for tonight temperatures are likely to be very low and if they dip below this figure there will be ice on the road in the morning.  Drivers are asked to take extra care.

Uptodate weather forecasts can be found on the bbc site and  Wiltshire Council is updating its website regularly.

As an employee of E/L contracted to wiltshire council we were given only a specific list of areas to grit, namely the pavements of Warminster town centre and the approach ones.Normally we would not be doing this except the council had an old pile of Irish grit containing clay which was of a poor quality we had to use, they obviously wanted to get rid of.( And I apologise for all the mess it had created). We normally only look after the car parks/Pine lawns cemetery.  Ideally snow should be cleared off the surfaces and a minimal use of grit applied but in this case shovelfuls of the stuff was thrown over the snow which isn't the best thing to do(put down to lack of man power I guess) and I gave up with all of the arguments relating to this issue with my fellow colleagues.

Wilts Council were out this morning in the town gritting the pavements - see pic in Gallery

but seeing the state of the pavements today reminded me that when I lived in Germany and it snowed, householders and shops were responsible for clearing the pavement outside their premises.    It worked - as soon as snow fell people were at work with brooms or shovels.

I wish Wiltshire Council would save some of their salted grit for the pavements. They have been absolutely treacherous. Once more, it is the vulnerable who suffer - the elderly without cars, who have no option but to walk or stay indoors.

I have ben looking at various online weather forecasts and I have been impressed with the acuracy of the MetOffice forecast. On its Warminster page it said that it would snow this afternoon between 1500 and 1800 and sure enough at 1510 it was snowing. I wonder if it will be clear as promised at 1800 this evening?
