The icy weather has caused a massive increase in work needed to mend potholes in our roads. Since the weather improved Wiltshire Council has filled more than 2,300 in a week and between 18 and 22 Jan spent £125,000 on the repairs.

Last week Wiltshire Council spent £125,000 on road repairs.
Their normal rate of filling potholes is 200 per week but after the freezing temperatures earlier in the month they have been working around the clock, filling more than 450 a day.
Staff have been moved from other jobs to help with the urgent work and the Council reports that it has its largest stock ever of a new highly durable repair material.
Cllr **** Tonge, cabinet member responsible for highways, said “We would encourage people to report serious potholes to CLARENCE on 0800232323 (or email clarence@wilts.gov.uk) and we will fill them as soon as we can. However, we prioritise the most serious ones and ask people to bear this in mind when calling in."
The Council is also refilling grit bins in case there is more severe weather in coming weeks.
