Wilts Wildlife Trust organised a guided walk on Saturday over the chalk downland of Scratchbury Hill at the edge of Salisbury Plain.
  • Wilts Wildlife Trust organised a guided walk on Saturday overthe chalk downland of Scratchbury Hill at the edge of Salisbury Plain. walk 4th June
  • Ivan Randall, WWT committee member from the Chippenham branch, led the walk.
  • There were many Spotted Orchids on the south facing slope - and one butterfly orchid was found.
  • It was eyes to the ground in search of interesting flowers or butterflies .....
  • ....found one! Flowers included horse shoe vetch, fairy flax, rock rose, tway blade, hoary plantain, dropwort.
  • The slopes were covered in waving grasses which included quaking grass and glaucous sedge. Many common blue and Adonis butterflies were flying close to the ground.
  • The yellow flowers included birdsfoot trefoil and rock rose.
  • Pause for refreshment - chance to enjoy views across teh Wylye Valley and bird song. Chiff chaff, blackcap, meadow pippit, chaffinch were among those heard.
