Frozen Boating Lake in Warminster

Today I took a walk down to the boating lake at Warminster Community Park.

Ducks at Warminster Boating Lake
The boating lake is almost completely frozen, with only a small part of the lake being clear of ice. As I walked towards the lake, I was confronted by what seemed to be hundreds of ducks and swans coming towards me! This seemed a little odd as ducks and swans are usually quite quick to go in the opposite direction when they see humans and animals coming.
With the boating lake being mostly frozen, it occurred to me that the fowl were probably after food as they would not have been able to find their usual food. I had a carrier bag with me, unfortunately not containing any food, which is probably why they came so close hoping for food.
In this weather we must think about the animals around us. Pets are looked after by their owners, farm animals are looked after as best as possible by the farmers but who looks after our birds and fowl? If you are going to Warminster boating lake to walk your dog, for your morning jog or a pleasant walk, why not take your crusts with you and feed the ducks and birds.
Whilst the lake is so frozen, I think it is really important that we help feed the fowl. Town Pets in Warminster sell bird food which you could also feed the birds in your garden with.
Do you feed the ducks in this weather?

I like to go to the boating lake on cold frosty days, it's so pretty down there. I never take any food for the ducks as I don’t like them to pester me (scrooge I know!)
