Budding young artists in Warminster have less than a month to enter their work into a competition to give them the chance to exhibit their work in a professional gallery setting.
Winners of the Open Arts competition being organised by Frome's Black Swan Arts Centre will also get the chance to work alongside professional artists from a wide range of disciplines to help them progress their artistic endeavours.
The Open Arts Competition for young people aged from eight to 19 closes for submissions on Friday February 1. The exhibition of all shortlisted work will run at the Frome gallery from Saturday February 23 until Saturday March 9, 2013. Entries are welcome from young people who live or go to school within a 20 mile radius of Frome.
"This really is a fantastic opportunity for young artists," said exhibition curator Amanda Sheridan.
"It's a chance for their work to be judged by professional artists and to be exhibited in a professional public space. There is very little opportunity like this for young artists so we're very pleased to be launching this open competition at the Black Swan.
"Our previous open competitions, for adult artists, have been a big success, with more than 400 entries for the last one. We wanted to build on this by offering the chance to young artists to show their work in a professional gallery.
"We've also had enormous support from local artists who are offering their time as a prize for the overall category winners."
Schools and groups working with young people are all being encouraged to tell budding artists about the competition. Photographs of the art works – which should be either A2 sized or fit within a 50cm square – can be submitted online and all those shortlisted will then be asked to bring their pieces to the gallery before the final judging.
More information about the competition is available at www.blackswan.org.uk/youngopen2013 and online submissions are being accepted until February 1st 2013.
